作品解説
山を登り、街を歩き、橋を渡る。私たちは本来、身体を動かす過程で時間や距離、光や風などを感じ取りながら空間を認識している。しかし現代の都市では、エレベーターや自動車のようなテクノロジーによって効率よく目的地へ移動できるようになり、その過程は意識から溢れ落ちてしまいがちだ。顧剣亨は、身体に蓄積されるこうした「知覚情報」を圧縮し、変換する装置として、写真というメディアを拡張させている。
用いられるのは、複数の写真をピクセル単位で手作業によって織り込んでいく独自の手法「デジタルウィービング」。異なる時間や場所、視点が一枚の画面で交錯することで、見慣れた風景とは異なる知覚が立ち上がる。ひとつの都市を写した写真でありながら、自分がどこに立ち、何を見ているのかという感覚は、眺めるほどに大きく揺らいでいく。
高層ビルの展望台から見下ろす都市は、世界中どこも似通って見える。ガラス越しに広がる景色を前にしたとき、私たちは本当にその都市を体験しているのだろうか。それとも、スクリーンに映し出された都市のイメージを眺めているだけなのだろうか。スマートフォンやPCで視覚的に世界を理解することに慣れてしまったいま、足元の感触や風の流れ、移動に伴う時間といった身体が受け取るさまざまな感覚を呼び覚ます。見ることとその場所にいることの間に生じる隔たりを感じることで、私たちは都市をどのように知覚し、経験しているのかを考え直す機会となる。
We understand space through the body moving through time—through distance, light, wind, and the sensations that gather as we walk, climb, or cross a landscape. In the modern metropolis, however, technologies such as elevators and cars compress this passage, letting us arrive without sensing the physical and temporal depth that once shaped perception.
Gu extends photography into an apparatus that condenses and transforms these displaced forms of bodily knowledge. His digital weaving—manually interlacing images at the pixel level—pulls different moments, sites, and viewpoints into a single surface, creating a field where orientation loosens and familiar streets begin to fracture.
Seen from the upper floors of a highrise, the metropolis becomes a homogenized panorama behind glass, nearly indistinguishable from the screens through which we now apprehend the world. Gu’s images summon back the sensory thickness contemporary urban experience neglects, opening a space in which we are invited to reconsider how we perceive—and inhabit—the contemporary metropolis.

顧 剣亨｜こけん りょう
1994年京都生まれ、上海育ち。京都芸術大学現代美術・写真コース卒業。大学在学中にフランス・アルル国立高等写真美術学校へ留学。現在は京都を拠点に活動中。主な個展に「Aperto18: Intervals of the afterimage」（金沢21世紀美術館）、「Dimensions Unseen」（Yumiko Chiba Associates）、「A PART OF THERE IS HERE」（YUKIMO MIZUTANI GALLERY）, KYOTOGRAPHIE 2019「15972 Sampling」等。主な受賞歴に「KG＋Award 2018」グランプリ、「sanwacompany Art Award /Art in The House2019」グランプリ。
Born in Kyoto in 1994 and raised in Shanghai, Kenryou Gu studied at Kyoto University of the Arts and the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions including Aperto18: Intervals of the Afterimage, Dimensions Unseen, and A PART OF THERE IS HERE. He received the Grand Prize at the KG+ Award in 2018 and the sanwacompany Art Award / Art in The House in 2019.
