今年の浅間国際フォトフェスティバルで作品を展示しているオランダ人作家 ルス・ヴァン・ビーク氏をお招きし、この日だけのトークイベントをMMoP内の御代田写真美術館で開催します。
古い本や雑誌、印刷物からイメージを収集し、切り抜き、組み替えることで、写真の新たな可能性を生み出し、「写真がどのように並び、互いに関係を結ぶのか」を探求するアーティストとも言える氏の作品や作家活動についてより深掘りできる時間です。

▪︎ルス・ヴァン・ビーク｜Ruth van Beek
1977年、オランダ生まれ。写真と被写体との関係、そして写真そのものが「物」として存在するときに生まれる関係性を探求する。「モノには主体性があり、互いに影響し合いながら世界を形づくる」という考えをもとに、身近なものを子どものような素朴なまなざしで見つめる。コラージュやアーカイブ写真の組み合わせ、アーティストブック、手製のオブジェなど多様な手法で制作。作品はPOST（東京）、Foam（アムステルダム）、Fraenkel Gallery（サンフランシスコ）、アルル国際写真祭などで発表。2014年よりヘリット・リートフェルト・アカデミー（アムステルダム）で教鞭を執る。

We are delighted to welcome Dutch artist Ruth van Beek, whose work is currently on view at this year’s Asama International Photo Festival, for a special one-day artist talk at the Miyota Museum of Photography at MMoP.
Collecting images from old books, magazines, and other printed materials, van Beek cuts them out and rearranges them to create new photographic possibilities. Her practice explores how photographs are placed in relation to one another, and how new meanings and connections can emerge through this process.
This special talk will offer a closer look at her work, creative process, and artistic practice.

▪︎Ruth van Beek
Born in the Netherlands in 1977, van Beek examines the shifting relationship between photographs and objects, treating photographs as objects in their own right. Guided by the idea that things possess agency, she approaches ordinary materials with an almost childlike attentiveness. Her practice spans collage, archival image arrangements, artist’s books, and handmade objects. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and she has taught at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam since 2014.
