作品解説
鮮やかな色の果物やゲーム機、タブレット端末――日常にありふれたモノが配置されたスティルライフだ。そこに記された文字は一見ブランドロゴのようだが、よく目を凝らせば、どれも意味をなさず、現実には存在しない偽物であることに気づく。実は、この静物写真を構成するすべてはAI（人工知能）によって生成された架空のイメージだ。
作品の着想源は、もともと16～17世紀のヨーロッパで発展した「ヴァニタス」と呼ばれる静物画にある。ヴァニタスは頭蓋骨や朽ちていく花、燃え尽きる蝋燭などを寓意的なモチーフと
して描き、「人はいつか必ず死を迎える」という「メメント・モリ（死を想え）」の思想を表現する絵画様式。当時の画家たちは豊や美、快楽は決して永遠ではないという真理を身近なモチーフに託して描いた。
本作はその伝統的なスタイルを受け継ぎながら、AIという新しい技術を介することで、ヴァニタスを現代の価値観を映し出すイメージへと読み替えてみせる。美術史の記憶とAIが交差して生まれた現代のヴァニタスが描き出すのは、際限なく人間の欲望を喚起する資本主義やグローバル化、その結果拡大する格差、そして現実と虚構の境界を揺るがすテクノロジーである。かつてのヴァニタスが物質的な富の儚さを告げたとすれば、この作品が突きつけるのは、私たちが本物だと信じる「現実」さえもがいまや生成され、消費されうるという新たな空虚なのかもしれない。
Vivid fruits, game consoles, and tablets—ordinary objects arranged as a still life—fill the frame. The markings resemble familiar logos, yet on closer look they collapse into nonsense, revealing themselves as fictions. Every element is an AIgenerated construct, an image without a real-world referent.
The work draws on the vanitas tradition of sixteenth–seventeenthcentury Europe, where skulls, fading flowers, and dying candles embodied the memento mori reminder that all life ends. Painters once entrusted the truth of impermanence to everyday things, depicting beauty and pleasure as fleeting.
Inheriting this lineage, the series reimagines vanitas through AI, translating its allegory into a contemporary register. Here, arthistorical memory meets machine vision, producing images shaped by capitalism’s endless appetite, globalized desire, widening inequality, and technologies that blur reality and fiction. If earlier vanitas works spoke of the fragility of material wealth, this project gestures toward a new void: a world in which even the “real” can be generated, consumed, and forgotten.

デジタルアーティスト・大橋弦也が2023年に立ち上げたAIビジュアルアートユニット。AIと人間の創造性が響き合うことで生まれる、新たな視覚表現の可能性を探求している。根底にあるのは、人類の知識・文化・歴史・技術という膨大なアーカイブへの関心であり、それらを現代の視点から再解釈・再構築することで、予測不可能な特異点を作品として立ち上げる。AIを単なる道具ではなく、人間の意図と交差し創作に偶然をもたらす共創的なパートナーと考え、シュルレアリスムのデペイズマンや静物画のヴァニタスといった美術史における表現方法を現代へ接続しながら、AIアートを独立したジャンルとして確立することを目指している。
Founded in 2023 by digital artist Genya Ohashi, the AI-driven visual art unit investigates emerging modes of image-making shaped by the interplay between machine intelligence and human creativity. Drawing on expansive archives of human knowledge, culture, and technology, its practice reconstructs these materials through a contemporary lens. By positioning AI as a creative collaborator rather than a technical instrument, the unit advances AI-generated art as an autonomous artistic genre.
