花や昆虫、時計などのモチーフとともに繰り返し現れるのは、断片的な子どものイメージ。中には、こちらに向かって笑いかける若い男女の姿も見られる。これらは、ヘンリエッテ・サブロー・エベセン自身の家族アルバムに収められた子供の頃の写真と、新しく自分で撮影した写真を出会わせることから生まれたコラージュだ。
父親と自分自身の二つのまなざしによって紡がれるのは、もう一つの家族の物語。異なる時期に撮影されたイメージを重ねることで、エベセンは大人になった「現在地」から幼少期の記憶を見つめ直し、新たな意味を見いだそうとしている。「制作中は、恐れを知らず、好奇心にあふれ、純粋な喜びに満ちていた幼少期の自分を再発見する時間でもあった」とエベセンは語る。古いアルバムをめくって家族写真を見返すと、自分を形づくってきた古い記憶と再びつながることになる。その追体験からは当時の安心感や温もりがよみがえる一方で、写真を組み替えることによって、事実と虚構が交錯する記憶の曖昧さも浮かび上がることになる。
エベセンの作品に通底するテーマは、「現実と想像のあわい」だ。記憶は鏡のように過去をそのまま映し出すものではなく、その後の経験や感情によって上書きされ、姿を変えていく。写真は、失われた時間を保存する器ではなく、見るたびに過去と現在の関係を書き換え、その時々にまだ知らない自分と出会う装置となる。
Photographs of children recur in fragments alongside flowers, insects, clocks, and other motifs. Young adults smile toward the camera. Each image is reconstructed from collages combining photographs from Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen’s family albums with her own photography. By layering images made by her father and herself at different moments in time, she revisits childhood from the vantage point of adulthood and searches for new meaning there. From the two perspectives of the father and the daughter, a new family story unfolds.
Ebbesen says, “the process of creating the series became a way of rediscovering the fearless, curious, and joyful child I once was.” Like her, looking through old albums reconnects us with memories that have shaped who we are. Yet while family photographs the revive warmth and security of childhood, rearranging them reveals the ambiguity of memory, where fact and fiction quietly overlap.
A recurring theme in Ebbesen’s work is the space between reality and imagination. Memory does not mirror the past; each time something is recalled, it shifts over time, influenced by the experiences and emotions that have accumulated between then and now. This series reflects an endless process, in which revisiting the past continually reshapes the present self.

デンマーク・コペンハーゲンを拠点とする写真家、映像作家。医学を学んだ経歴を持ち、科学と芸術の領域を横断しながら、写真を通して知覚、アイデンティティ、人間の精神を探究している。鏡や反射素材を主な表現手法とし、写真と絵画、現実と想像の境界を曖昧にするイメージを生み出す。作品ではアイデンティティ、記憶、無意識が繰り返し探求され、被写体は脆さと強さを併せ持つ存在として描かれる。2024年にはフォトグラフィスカ・ストックホルムで大規模個展「Kaleidoscope」を開催。同年に『Self Reflection』を刊行。2026年にはフォトヴォーグ・フェスティバルやアルル国際写真祭に参加。
A Copenhagen-based photographer and film director, Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen works at the intersection of science and art. Trained as a medical doctor, she explores perception, identity, and the human psyche through photography. Using mirrors and reflective materials, she creates images that blur the boundaries between photography and painting, reality and imagination. In 2024, she held her major solo exhibition Kaleidoscope at Fotografiska Stockholm and published Self Reflection. In 2026, her work reached new international audiences through exhibitions at PhotoVogue Festival and Les Rencontres d’Arles.
